A deeper understanding

Parents are judged from the moment a child is conceived. By the time they sit across from a psychologist, many arrive carrying worry, shame, or the fear of being judged again. Working well with parents is one of the most important skills in child and adolescent practice, and one of the least taught. This training explores why parents respond the way they do, what is behind the behaviour we sometimes label as difficult, and how to build the kind of trust that makes change possible. We will also consider the psychologist's side of the relationship, because what we bring into the room matters just as much as what parents bring. The session blends theory, reflection, and practical application, with real examples from real sessions. Participants leave with a deeper understanding of the parents they work with, concrete strategies they can use straight away, and a clearer view of their own practice.

Reflect and discuss

This is live CPD where you will engage deeply with the content through discussion and role play, and be encouraged to ask questions. You will be learning alongside your peers and sharing your knowledge and experiences to gain a deeper understanding of the topic.

Kate Crosher

Kate Crosher (she/her) is an Educational & Developmental and Clinical Psychologist, Board Approved Supervisor, Director of Enfys Psychology and AEDPA. Her psychology career spans over 20 years, primarily in government and state schools, including being a Professional Practice Leader for the Department of Education.

Kate is a Circle of Security Parenting and Classroom Facilitator who has also worked across university and tertiary institutions as a Senior Lecturer and Supervisor in postgraduate psychology programs. She has supervised and nurtured psychologists-in-training for many years and is passionate about promoting their personal and professional growth.
