A deeper understanding

This session will provide participants with information on a range of issues related to working with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples. Appropriate frameworks for understanding and supporting Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples will be considered. The presentation may also include reflections on how past experiences of trauma such as the Stolen Generation can continue to impact on the health and wellbeing of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples today including their willingness to access health services including psychology services.

Reflect and discuss

This is live CPD where you will engage deeply with the content through discussion and role play, and be encouraged to ask questions. You will be learning alongside your peers and sharing your knowledge and experiences to gain a deeper understanding of the topic.

Guest Lecturer From the Jilya Institute

The Westerman Jilya Institute for Indigenous Mental Health is an Aboriginal Community Controlled, not-for-profit organisation focused on reducing Indigenous suicides and strengthening wellbeing. Founded by Dr. Tracy Westerman AM in response to the tragic deaths of Aboriginal young people in the Kimberley, Jilya supports the development of culturally and clinically informed mental health services. Through initiatives like the Indigenous Psychology Scholarship Program, Jilya is empowering Indigenous students and increasing the number of Indigenous psychologists in high-risk communities.
